Different types of information systems in the world- OSS,MSS, AI, DSS, EIS and GIS

Different Types of Information Systems in the World

There are Different types of information systems in the world. Manual, automated and semi-automated are some methods which handle information in a Systematic method. Basically this Information system can be divided into two categories called Operation Support System (OSS Hereafter), Management Support System (MSS Hereafter).

OSS (Operation Support System)

OSS is a System which handle day to day transactions and industry processes like manage, purchasing, billing, reservation, invoicing, stock management. Again this OSS can be divide into two categories as Industrial Process Control System (IPCS Hereafter) which support manufacturing Processors. This method is use sensor based technology. The other method is Transaction Processing System (TPS Hereafter).  This method support day to day transactions such as Stock Management, Order Processing, Payments etc.

MSS (Management Support System)

MSS is supportive to receive data from OSS. In MSS it Summarize and Analyze data. MSS can be divide into three categories called Management Information Systems (MIS Hereafter), Decision Support System (DSS Hereafter), Executive Support Systems/Executive Information Systems (ESS/EIS Hereafter).

Feeding Data from transaction processing Systems is the main role of MIS. And to serve Operational Management These data further process by sorting, Merging, Summarizing etc. Displays and Reports are the outputs which generate by MIS. Search result is an example for Display This is helpful a Manager to Generate Database response. Reports can belong too many types as Push Reports, On Demand Reports, Periodic Reports, Exception Reports.

Artificial Intelligence Systems (AI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI Hereafter) is the theory and development of computer systems. AI Systems able to perform human intelligence such as decision making, Speech recognition, and translation between languages. This can be a software or a machine. A robot with AI is an example for AI.

Decision Support System (DSS)

The main role of Decision Support system (DSS Hereafter) is supporting management in taking business decisions.

There are some key characteristics of this System.
·         Covering the use of a database for a specific decision making process.
·         Reports are the output of this system which does not automated transformation on data.  It is supportive for decision making.
·         This is designed for semi structured or for complex problem.
·         DSS is a system which requiring Human Judgment.
·         This system can be known as a process instead of Product.

Management Information System

Management Information System (MIS Hereafter) is a Computerized database of financial Information. The management in a company are the people who operate MIS. It produces regular reports on Operations. Also, MIS is supportive for smooth running of Company.

In this System Top management can monitor the company as a whole. That is the main purpose of MIS also can be known as to give managers feedback to their own performance. Sales Management System, Inventory Control System, Budget Systems Management Reporting Systems (MRS) are some examples.
The role of MIS is based on internal information flows. And it supports relatively structured Decisions. It is Inflexible and have little analytical capacity. This system is used by Middle Level Management of an Organization. This system is deals with the past and present rather than the future.

Executive Information System (EIS)

Executive Information System (EIS Hereafter) is the Information System which use by the Executive level in an Organization. EIS is a graphical interface. It is a useful interface for Executive level of an organization for Decision making Purpose.
The role of EIS is concerned with ease of use and predicting the future. This system is effectiveness oriented system and highly flexible System. Also, this is the system which support unstructured Decisions. Internal and external.

Global Information Systems (GIS)

Global Information System (GIS) is a system which leading Information Technology (IT) and developed and used in a global contact. Also this system delivers the totality of measurable data worldwide within a defined context. This system can be used for scientific investigation, resource management and Development planning.
