Classification of Computers

Classification of Computers

Computers can be classified into three categories according to the Size, Technology and Purpose.

Computer Classification According to the Size

Classification of computers according to size can be divide into five categories called Super Computers, Mainframe Computers, Workstation Computers, Mini Computers and Micro Computers.

Super Computers

Super computers are using for special Mathematical Calculations also for Scientific Research. This is the fastest type of computers and it is very expensive. Specialized employees are using this type of computers.

Mainframe Computers

The purpose of Mainframe Computers is to Control many Computers at one time. These computers are handing large amount of data. These type of computers are used by the large institutions such as Government, banks etc.

Computer Classification According to the Technology

Class of Computers according to the technology can be divide into three Criteria called Analog, Digital and Hybrid. Analog computers are using to process the Environment such as weather report. Digital computers are used for Number Processing Systems. Hybrid means the technology. This is used to analyze both Analog and digital Computers.

Classification according to the purpose

Special Purpose Computers and General Computers are the criteria’s which represent the Purpose Base Computers.

Special Purpose Computers
Special Purpose computers are generally used by the specialized employees such as doctors who used X-ray Machine, Eye checkup Machine, EGC Machine Echography Machine etc.

General Purpose Computer
General purpose computers mean the computers which everyone can use. Laptop Computers (Figure0-35), Desktop Computers, Smartphones, Tablets etc.
